WRITING SAMPLE.

As a Senior, I can take different themed English Classes. I chose "Literature and Ethics in Public Health," and in one of my papers, I analyzed Charlotte Perkins Gilman's famous story, "The Yellow Wallpaper." I argued that the main character represents many of the 19th century cultural and medical myths about women, yet, the ending scene shows some glimmer of hope when, in her deep psychosis, she "creeps" over her oppressive husband who has fainted after seeing what she has done to the room. She subverts the aim of "the rest cure" by crawling on the floor, climbing over his body, and, if only for a moment, metaphorically escaping the patriarchal hold on her own body.
